SAN SALVADOR, December 17, 2024 – Mi Primer Bitcoin, a bitcoin education non-profit rooted in El Salvador, has launched its Online School. After building and testing this digital educational environment for a couple of months, it’s now open to the public.
After the renowned Bitcoin Diploma, the Bitcoin Intro Course and Guides for teachers, My First Bitcoin has built another tool. The Online School can be used by independent, impartial, and community-led bitcoin-only educators from all over the world. This digital platform is built with support from Block, Inc., after it awarded My First Bitcoin with a Discovery Grant early 2024, in its efforts to push for more open source resources.
The Discovery Grant supports nonprofit organizations working towards one aspect of Block’s purpose: making financial education open and available to all.
Online School
The Online School can be described as a Learning Management System (LMS), a digital environment that brings students, a curriculum, and the teacher together. After months of development and internal tests with a handful of educational projects, the Online School is now ready to be rolled out officially.
The LMS will be a game-changer in the field of digital bitcoin education. It offers a big variety of features; from online meetings, quizzes, discussions, assignments, and chapters in the form of PDF or PowerPoint slides. It is an extension of the analog Bitcoin Diploma, a 10-week open source curriculum that explains the basics of bitcoin and the lighting network.
With the so-called Node Network, My First Bitcoin has bootstrapped a network of almost 60 independent educational projects from around 30 countries. Via this strong network of educators, the Online School has already been beta tested, with The Core (Kenya), Operation Bitcoin (USA), and Bitcoin Indonesia (Indonesia), and more cohorts in the pipeline with Sovereign Students (United Kingdom) and Bitcoin Ubuntu (South Africa). Some of them already graduated their first cohorts via the Online School.
All of these projects have their own webpages, via which the students can enroll themselves for a course, whether this is the Bitcoin Diploma, Intro Course, or upcoming Bitcoin for Business Course or Teach the Teachers Program. All courses can be translated into various languages, just like the analog version of the Diploma is already available is 30+ languages.
Jonathan Yagoobian, IT Manager of Mi Primer Bitcoin, explains:
“At Mi Primer Bitcoin, we strive to empower communities with impartial Bitcoin education. The launch of our online school, made possible through the generous support of Block’s Discovery Grant, represents a significant step in making this education accessible worldwide.”
“Designed to enable and support community-driven, open-source educators, such as those in our Node Network, the platform allows Bitcoin education to be shared freely with the world. Though still in the early phases, we already have over 800 students enrolled and nearly 100 graduates from these community courses. This initiative is transforming the way Bitcoin is taught and learned globally, fostering our decentralized approach to education.”
