SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, September 16 — My First Bitcoin recently celebrated its third birthday, and the movement continues to mature. It is now old enough to start to see some great talent rise from within.
Hector Alvero, our Director of Education, as well as Adam Nili, our Chief Operating Officer, are stepping aside and a new generation of homegrown leadership will build the future of the organization.
Both Hector and Adam had vast experience and an impressive resume when each joined in 2023, and both were hired to fill an immediate vacancy while we built up talent in-house.
Reyna Chicas has risen through the ranks of the organization. In early 2023 we sent her, as a teacher, to help Bitcoin Lake in Guatemala with their education efforts. When she returned to El Salvador six months later, she exhibited a deep understanding of the mission and an unyielding desire to learn. After a series of promotions, she is now our Lead Teacher, on our Board of Directors and has a crucial leadership role in our ongoing work with the Ministry of Education. Hector is now helping her transition to the Director of Education, after which he will stay on part-time as Curriculum Coordinator.
“As a Salvadoran who began this journey as a teacher, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of education to inspire growth and change,” said Reyna. “Going from a teacher in Guatemala to leading as a teacher back home was just the beginning.”
“With this new opportunity as Director of Education, my commitment is stronger than ever—to help create more stories of empowerment with MPB, to be a good example for my people, both in my country and beyond, and to show that with passion, effort, and dedication, we can build a better future.”
Quentin Ehrenmann has likewise been on an incredible upward trajectory since joining in early 2023. His first project was an extreme challenge that we partnered with Bitcoin Beach for: move to an isolated, underdeveloped island off the eastern coast of El Salvador and kick start an education-focused circular economy. After six months the initiative had made great progress and Quentin was able to hand off the project to local talent, and moved to the mountains of Berlin, El Salvador. In the time since, he has shown great commitment and an uncanny ability to rise to every occasion. He was promoted to Director of Operations where he improved internal infrastructure as well as helped the My First Bitcoin Node Network of Independent Educators mature—now with 39 nodes in 27 nations. Adam is now helping him transition to his new role as General Manager and will stay on as an advisor during the transition.
“From working on a special project on an island off El Salvador to joining the leadership team and contributing to the execution of our mission, my journey at Mi Primer Bitcoin has been incredibly rewarding,” said Quentin. “I look forward to helping bring independent Bitcoin education to the next 100,000 students.”
Both Reyna and Quentin are excellent examples of the core mission of My First Bitcoin: empowerment. This is not just something we apply to students in the classrooms, but a concept we apply internally as well.
We want to thank Hector Alvero and Adam Nili who have both done a tremendous job not only in their official role but also in their current additional one of mentoring the next generation.
Congratulations, Reyna Chicas and Quentin Ehrenmann—you earned this!
