We’re incredibly honored to share that My First Bitcoin is one of the latest grant recipients from OpenSats, as announced in this press release. This donation will help us to support and empower bitcoin communities from all over the world with open source educational resources, particularly benefiting the 31 projects within our Node Network.
We believe Open Source is the (only) way forward, and are grateful for OpenSats’ commitment to realize this, not only in the field of supporting developers but also educators. Our shared mission and vision emphasize this once again: Provide Free and Open Source Bitcoin Tools for building a better world with freedom tech. We’re proud to receive a grant, and join a list of very respected open source projects, such as Bitcoin Core, Tor, and Graphene OS. We aim to become a similar operating system, but for bitcoin education.
As living proof of our commitment, we open sourced our educational resources on GitHub. Our 2023 Diploma workbook has been translated into 5 languages; the 2024 version is taught in dozens of places!
You’ll not only find all our educational materials, but also a complete directory of all the communities that are part of the MPB Node Network, consisting of Full Nodes and Light Nodes. This fast-growing collective of projects from more than 20 countries are teaching this Student Workbook in their own local communities. In their directories, you can find their proof of work and latest achievements, but also how YOU can support them in their mission!
As highlighted in the press release, My First Bitcoin is one of the first three recipients of the OpenSats Education Initiative:
A core principle of OpenSats is that all supported projects must be open-source and freely accessible. Consequently, all educational materials funded through our grants must be published under a free and open license, making them available to everyone. We believe that the power of education lies in its open accessibility, and this initiative is designed to break down paywalls and other financial barriers, providing free high-quality educational resources to anyone interested in learning about Bitcoin.
As part of this initiative launch, our board has selected three more projects for funding. In no particular order, here they are: Satoshi Nakamoto Institute, Mi Primer Bitcoin, and Summer of Bitcoin.
These projects represent a wide range of educational approaches, from in-depth historical analysis to hands-on learning experiences, and we are proud to support their efforts to spread Bitcoin knowledge.
Let’s show the world that Open Source Bitcoin Education is unstoppable! Thanks again, OpenSats! 🙏🏻
